Intro:

Summer Camp Counselors - Providing Camp Experiences for Children with Special Needs

To create a fun and exciting camp experience for children with special needs under the guidance of the Camp Director, while caring for the children during their daily activities. We will be working with children up to 11 years old that have a variety of special needs. Programming will include fun stuff like, cooking, sports, crafts, music and more!

Our staff will need to be energetic and fun and ready to learn. 

Camp Dates are June 3 - July 26 and all staff must be able to work full days, Monday - Friday during this time frame, except for the week of July 4th.


Job Duties: 

  • Assist in the implementation of a variety of daily camp activities that are developmentally appropriate for the children served.
  • Provide a fun, social, and educational camp experience for all children.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation as directed.
  • Follow positive discipline procedures as directed.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and toys.
  • Assist in maintaining the classroom and materials in a clean, safe, organized and accessible order.
  • Follow confidentiality standards regarding students and their families.
  • Refer parent contacts, questions, and comments to the Camp Director.
  • To Adhere to the Personnel Policies.
  • Treat children, parents, and staff with respect.
  • Maintain a harmonious working relationship.
  • Other duties as assigned by Camp Director.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Applicants with degrees in Education, Special Education, Child Psychology, etc are strongly preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with special needs is strongly preferred.
  • Must have a solid understanding of child development and be able to complete required staff development training, including the full staff orientation.
  • Physical condition must be such that it allows for quick movement and the ability to lift and position children with physical limitations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and with assistance over 25 pounds.
  • Prior to employment, completion of a physical examination and negative TB test results must be on file with Signal Centers.
